Forest Ruff by Carolyn Schmitz
A bobcat’s eyes shine with the verdant hues of her cap and ruff. Fuzzy mullein leaves with forest trimmings–pine needles, pussy willows, acorns, and yarrow flowers–blend with her soft fur. Cotton grass and a western dayflower guide a majestic cecropia moth as she circles for a landing.
“Who could challenge this grand spectacle?” the bobcat boasts as the moth touches down.
“Perhaps I can,” says a tiny voice from the red spot on her collar. “My body is a puckered pillow of vermilion velvet, fringed with my legs and feelers.”
Even a mite can be a marvel.
